Sony paceļ profesionālās kvalitātes attēlveidi un radošās iespējas jaunos augstumos ar ērti lietojamo α NEX-7 fotokameru. NEX-7 korpuss izgatavots no magnija sakausējuma, kas ne tikai labi izskatās, bet ir arī izturīgs, turklāt svars ir piemērots ceļojumiem - aptuveni 291 g (tikai korpuss).
NEX-7 ir no jauna izstrādātais Exmor APS HD CMOS sensors ar 24,3 efektīvo megapikseļu izšķirtspēju, kas darbojas kopā ar jaunākās paaudzes Sony BIONZ attēlu apstrādes procesoru.
Šis unikālais sensora un procesora apvienojums nodrošina īpaši ātru reakciju, turklāt nevainojamu attēlu kvalitāti ar īpaši zemu graudainību gan fotografējot, gan filmējot Full HD video. Īpaši augsts gaismjutības diapazons no ISO 100-16000 ļauj viegli fiksēt skaidrus attēlus blāvi apgaismotās iekštelpās vai krēslā.
Kameras reakcijas ātrumu vēl vairāk palielina faktiski nemanāmā slēdža aizture, kas ir tikai 0,02 sekundes - tā ir visātrākā ciparu kamera ar maināmajām objektīviem pasaulē. Ātro un precīzo autofokusu uzlabo jaunā objektu izsekošana, kas precīzi saglabā fokusu uz izvēlēto mērķi pat tam kadrā pārvietojoties.
NEX-7 piedāvā ātru un vienkāršu radošo iestatījumu kontroli ar jaunu intuitīvu TRINAVI vadību. Divas kameras virspusē esošās vadības skalas ir papildinātas ar vadības disku. NEX-7 tāpat ir pasaulē pirmā kompaktkamera, kurai ir XGA OLED TruFinderTM skatu meklētājs precīzai kompozīcijas veidošanai un fokusēšanai. Šis precīzais elektroniskais skatu meklētājs nodrošina gaišu, detaļām bagātu, augsta kontrasta fotogrāfiju un video apskati, kā arī aptuveni 100% kadra pārklājumu, kas konkurē ar profesionālā līmeņa optiskajiem skata meklētājiem. Precīzai kadrēšanai palīdzēs režģa līnijas ekrānā un digitālais līmeņrādis.
XGA OLED Tru-FinderTM papildina 7,5 cm (3.0") Xtra Fine LCD ekrāns, ko var grozīt uz augšu līdz 90° vai uz leju 45º leņķī, lai tas būtu viegli saskatāms jebkurā fotografēšanas pozīcijā. TruBlack tehnoloģija garantē lielisku detalizāciju un kontrastu ar būtiski samazinātu ekrāna atspīdumu.
Ar vienas pogas pieskārienu NEX-7 filmē plūstošu AVCHD Full HD video ar augstas kvalitātes stereo skaņu. Atbalsts jaunajam AVCHD Progressive (ver. 2.0)* formātam tāpat ļauj lietotājiem izvēlēties 50p vai 25p kadru ātrumu brīnišķīgi plūstošam, detalizētam video. Līdzīgi kā fotografējot, arī filmējot funkcija Object Tracking ļauj izvēlēties objektu precīzai autofokusa izsekošanai, pat ja tas pārvietojas.
Tagad, filmējot video, pieejams arī manuālais fokuss. Lietotājiem ir pilnīga kontrole pār nevainojamu video attēla veidošanu, izmantojot programmas, apertūras/slēdža prioritātes un pilnībā manuālos režīmus (PASM). Ar pārstrādātu elektrisko shēmu ir uzlabota stereo skaņas kvalitāte, kas samazina trokšņu līmeņus, īpaši filmējot klusas ainas.
Ātruma prioritātes režīmā NEX-7 fiksē ātru darbību līdz pat 10 k/sek., kas ir pasaulē lielākais nepārtrauktās fotografēšanas ātrums bezspoguļa kamerai ar maināmajiem objektīviem.
Pirmoreiz izmantoti jau NEX-C3 fotokamerā, attēlu efekti vienkāršo sarežģītu māksliniecisko efektu radīšanu kamerā bez datora vai pēcapstrādes nepieciešamības. Tagad ir pieejami 11 režīmi un 15 efekti, to skaitā jauns HDR Painting, Soft Focus, Miniature, Rich-Tone Monochrome un Soft High-key. Lielajā citu māksliniecisku attēlveides funkciju skaitā ir 3D Sweep Panorama, Soft Skin, Auto HDR, Handheld Twilight un Anti Motion Blur režīmi.
NEX-7 ir pirmā no Sony E-mount bajonetes kamerām, kas aprīkota ar automātiskas fiksācijas aksesuāru pamatni (Auto-lock Accessory Shoe). Šis stiprinājums savietojams ar zibspuldzēm HVL-F58AM, F43AM un F20AM, HVL-MT24AM Macro Twin Flash Kit un CLM-V55 piespraužamo LCD monitoru.

Atsevišķi nopērkamais LA-EA2 ir pasaulē pirmais bajonetes pārveidotājs ar iebūvētu Translucent Mirror TechnologyTM, kas nodrošina fāzes nobīdes autofokusu ar gandrīz visiem A-mount bajonetes objektīviem gan fotografējot, gan filmējot.
Īpaši NEX-7 tiek izlaista mīkstā soma LCS-ELC7, kas apvieno cieši pieguļošu korpusa somu un objektīvu "svārciņus" no īstas ādas, lai aizsargātu kameru un objektīvus no skrambām un putekļiem. Vēl pieejama STP-XH70 pleca siksna no tā paša materiāla.
